Pt. Raj Kumar Bakshi is remembered as an eminent social worker who was groomed under the noble and patriotic influence of his mother and freedom fighter, Rani Dhanraj Pati Bakshi. After being widowed at 18, she was motivated to join the freedom movement. She succumbed to injuries at the young age of 39, sustained during a lathi charge in Lahore.
Young Raj Kumar Bakshi was strongly influenced by his mother who lived courageously in the most turbulent of times. He made significant contributions to the Bhoodan Movement, and was a strong supporter of the freedom struggle himself. As a social worker and philanthropist, he helped several and gave them hope to lead better lives. Setting up educational institution for the masses to spread the light of literacy was one of his ways of contributing to the society. In 1987, his visionary wife, Lt. Smt. Mira Bakshi, set up the institution in accordance with his wishes, embodying his ideals of Vision, Wisdom, and Strength.
